A TRIBUTE TO DAD/GRANDPA
MERVIN LARRY COOK
Mr. Mervin (Merv) Larry Cook of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Friday, May 22nd, 2015. He was born on July 5th, 1938 at Prince Albert, SK. Dad spent several years as a child in the Big River area, at the homestead of his mom and dad. It is known from stories told by his parents, George and Martha Cook, that Dad was a survivor from day one. At a very young age, Dad was known to be able to find his way through the dense forest and lake areas of Big River and Cowan Lake region. At age seven Dad’s family moved to the Central Butte farm. After completion of high school, he had many jobs including labourer for CNR, and an Orderly with the Moose Jaw Health Division, where he met his wife of many years Pat Cook. Dad obtained his Journeyman Red Seal in Carpentry in 1968. He was proudly employed as a finishing carpenter until his retirement in 2000. Dad had many friends and many who still to this day comment to his carpentry abilities throughout Saskatchewan. Dad will always be remembered for his love of his family and especially his grandchildren – they were his reason. He was always close by to lend a helping hand to his family and his friends and helped us all with our never ending house renovations. His love of nature, geology, archeology – including arrowhead hunting, were passed along to all his children as well as shared with many of his good friends. For being a farm kid who should have had a dislike for rocks, Dad was often asked why he was dragging another rock home with him. He also had a love for music, art and animals, including all his families’ dogs and cats, fishing, jokes a many, and peaceful days relaxing in Wakamow Park. Dad is survived by his children: Paul (Tanya), Dean (Tracey) and Denise; grandchildren: Aiden, Katelyn, Rayna, Tara, Shay, Kennedy, Keegan, Dylan and Kylee. Dad is also survived by his brother, Crayton (Norma) and sister, Francis (Russell) and their families. In keeping with Merv’s wishes there will be no Funeral Service. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Merv’s name may be made to the Wakamow Valley Development Fund, Box 1266, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4P9. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
