Dorothy Closs
Dorothy Closs (nee Wellsch) of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at Providence Place at the age of 87 . Dorothy was born January 14, 1922 in Swift Current Saskatchewan and was raised on the family farm North of Stewart Valley, Saskatchewan. After high school she attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1944. While in Moose Jaw she met her husband, Eucie. They were married on March 2nd, 1946 and Moose Jaw became their permanent home. Dorothy enjoyed a long career as a nurse in Moose Jaw at Providence Hospital, then at VON and is most remembered by people as the public health nurse that gave them their shots. Dorothy retired in 1984. After retirement Dorothy and Eucie thoroughly enjoyed spending summers at their condo in Elbow as they loved to golf. During winters they travelled extensively especially after taking up skiing. Among her favourite vacations were their trip to Japan and 2 trips to the Holy Land. Dorothy was a very active member of St Joseph’s Church especially after she and Eucie completed the RCIA course in 1988. Dorothy is predeceased by daughter, Mary and sister Marion. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her devoted and loving husband of 63 years, Eucie, and children Brian (Glenda)of Edmonton, Brent (Brenda)of Moose Jaw, Lana(Pat) Klein of Regina , Tom(Christine) of Moose Jaw, Dan(Andrea) of Regina, grandchildren Nolan(Cathy), Nadine(Jesse), and Theresa Closs; Bonnie (Rob) Seabrook, Ryan Closs, and Jenni (Dustin) Arndt; and Greg, Colleen (Matthew), Christine (Walker) and Erica Klein; great-grandchildren Meika , Zidane, Eleana, Jackson , Sloane and Gaige . Dorothy is also survived by her brothers, Francis, Harold , and Max (Gwen) Wellsch, sister-in-law Vera Watson and brother-in-law Claude (Ivy) Closs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Deacon Bob Williston will officiate.
