CATLING, ELEANORA (LAURA) (née: PAPUC)
With heavy hearts the family of Laura (Eleanora) announce that on Friday, November 19th, 2021 she passed away with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer; parents, George and Elena (née: Vatamaniuk); brothers: Dan, Bill, Gus, Pete, John, and Nick; sisters, Mary Henrikson and Margaret Skarbon; and infant sisters, Laura and Virginia. Laura will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Thompson, Loreen (Rick) Shmanka, and Lee (Doug) Stubel; son, Kelvin (Darlene) Catling; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna Papuc and Leaila Papuc; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Laura was born in Valor, SK and raised on the family farm in Flintoff, SK. She met Wilmer in Assiniboia, SK. After they were married they lived a short time in Sault Ste. Marie, ON then they returned to Saskatchewan to live on the farm in Flintoff for a while, then to Moose Jaw to their own farm in Grand Valley Park. Over the years Laura was involved with the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetic Association, Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, C.O.F. Court 1263, Moose Jaw Art Guild, Moose Jaw Multicultural Club and the Singles Club of Moose Jaw. She was one of the original shareholders for Temple Gardens Mineral Spa. She owned and operated her own hair dressing shop, as well as selling Tupperware, Shaklee products and Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Celebrant Dave Foley will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donation in Laura’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. my deepest sympathies to Laura’s family. I have been friends with her for many years. She enjoyed coming to the casino and loved to visit with all the staff. she was like part of our family. I loved joking back and forth with her. I will fondly remember her and will deeply miss her. Rest in Peace sweet Laura
