Mary Catherine Cannon
Mary Catherine Cannon of London, ON passed away on Friday, May 31st, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Catherine was predeceased by parents, Charles and Lucy; her brothers: Harry, Art, Bernard, George and Kenneth; and sisters-in-law, Jenny and Dene. She is survived by her brother, Don from Medicine Hat and sisters-in-law: Hazel of Medicine Hat, Maxine and Rita of Moose Jaw. Born in Moose Jaw, SK Catherine attended elementary and secondary schooling in Marquis. She then furthered her education at the Universities in Saskatoon and Toronto receiving her B.A. Honours and M.A. from the respective campuses. Catherine then attended Normal School in Regina, spent three years teaching and then enlisted in the R.C.A.F. (W.D.). After the war she returned to Moose Jaw as a teacher, furthered her education in Calgary by participating in a business course and then co-founded with Father Kuckartz, OMI in 1951 a new religious community, the Sisters of Mission Service. After 18 years her objectives were achieved with the Sisters. She left the order and went to London, ON for five years to help in founding a Christian Renewal Center. From London Catherine went to North Bay to teach at Scollard Hall, an all-boys high school. After retiring from teaching, Catherine moved to Etobicoke, ON and welcomed family and friends to Toronto and increased her world knowledge by traveling to many countries with other international travellers. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Father Rick Krofchek will officiate and interment will take place at St. John’s Cemetery, Marquis, SK. Flowers are gratefully declined.
