Arthur James Cannon
Arthur James Cannon of Moose Jaw passed away Wednesday, May 2 nd, 2007 at the age of 84. He was born December 9, 1922 in Providence Hospital, Moose Jaw. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Genevieve (Jenny), daughter Rita of Nanaimo, son Robert (Laureen) and family Greg and Michael of Saskatoon and Angela of Prince Albert, daughter Lois (Don) Ross and family James and Christa of Regina, daughter Anne (Rob) Hayes and family Ryan, Kristina and Alana of Sherwood Park, Alberta, son Gordon of Marquis and son John (Raeleen) and family Regan and Lindsay of Prince Albert. Art will also be remembered by his sister Catherine of Toronto; brothers Don (Dene) of Medicine Hat and Ken of Ottawa; sisters-in-law Hazel of Medicine Hat, Maxine of Moose Jaw and Rita of Marquis; Art’s many nieces, nephews and Jenny’s sisters, brothers, spouses, nieces and nephews. Art is predeceased by parents Charles and Lucy and his brothers Harry, Bernard and George. Art attended school in Marquis and after graduation he enlisted in the RCAF in October 1942 as a tail gunner. After completing 33 bombing missions over the European mainland, Art was discharged in 1945 as a Flying Officer. He worked at a lumber camp and sawmill in Ontario and B.C. respectively. Art purchased farmland in the Marquis district in 1945 and 1946. On October 11, 1948 Art married Jenny Burkart. Art operated a dairy and grain farm and was heavily involved in various boards and committees. He also participated in sports and coached his family in hockey, curling, baseball and softball. More recently Art enjoyed curling competitions, live baseball games, was an ardent Toronto Blue Jays fan and pursued activities in Moose Jaw over the past 6 years with Jenny. A special thanks to Dr. Majid and the ICU staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital for their dignity and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Prayer Services at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6th, 2007 at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, and the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Church of our Lady, 566 Vaughan St.
