Percy William Cann
Percy William Cann, aged 79 years of Lloydminster and formerly of Assiniboia, SK, passed away on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at the Lloydminster Hospital. Percy was born on June 9th, 1937 in Assiniboia, SK to Jake and Myrtle Cann of Crane Valley, SK. He was raised on a farm at Crane Valley, working at mixed farming with his parents. He was educated at the Crane Valley & District School and completed his grade 12. While going to school, Percy worked for the Readlyn Telephone Company repairing and rebuilding telephone lines. After graduation, he worked with the Assiniboia School Division in maintenance and repair, and later in the Bus Division’s repair and maintenance section. Percy drove school bus, transporting students from the Maxstone and St. Victor areas. He also worked at Gordy’s Auto Body in Assiniboia for 3 years. In 1967, Percy went to work for Inland Construction (now Leeville Construction), and in 1994 moved to Lloydminster, AB to manage Craftex Builders Inc. Percy retired in Lloydminster in 2009. Percy liked all sports, including baseball, hockey, and curling. He competed in curling at the provincial level in both High School and Men’s curling. Percy married Kay Liefso in 1960 and they raised two sons together. He married Corrie Kurp in September of 1998 and took up residence in Lloydminster, AB. While in Assiniboia, Percy was involved with Men’s Hardball, Minor Ball, Cubs and Scouts, the Merchant Association, Kinsmen, Minor Hockey, Red Coat Trail Association, Assiniboia Tourism, Regional Tourism, and the Fire Department. While in the Kinsmen, Percy served as Club President and District Deputy Governor, and charted the Ore Lake Kinsmen Club as well as assisting in other charters. Percy also loved to fish and hunt with family and friends, as well as vacationing to the USA, Jamaica, and Mexico with his wife Corrie in later years. Percy leaves to mourn: his wife, Corrie; sons, Darren of Kindersley, SK and Darris of Fort McMurray, AB; stepchildren, Rob (Lynn) Kurp of Rouleau, SK and Sonja Kurp of Moose Jaw, SK; step-granddaughters: Elecia Kurp of Moose Jaw, Merissa Kurp of Milestone, SK and Kendra Kurp of Moose Jaw; great-granddaughters, Hanna and Mila; and sister, Darlene Jordison and family of Crane Valley, SK. A Celebration of Percy’s Life will be held on Friday, June 9th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Percy’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
