BOOTH, Reverend Lewis Marvin

Reverend Lew Booth passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13th, 2016 after a brief illness.  Lew was born January 5th, 1925 at the family farm near Southey, SK.  At age 17, he enlisted in the RCAF training as a pilot, and was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1945.  After his discharge, Lew worked at Eaton’s in furniture sales and as a carpenter.  His career also included attending classes for electronics while working at CPR.  He opened his own business, Mill City TV, as an electronics repairman.  In 1981, he closed his business so that he and his wife, Dorothy, could move to Saskatoon where he attended Lutheran Theological Seminary to become a Lay Minister, graduating in 1982.  He then served in Edmonton, Norman Wells and Calgary.  Lew and Dorothy moved to Lomond, AB in 1987 to serve at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lomond, AB and Hope Lutheran Church in Milo, AB.  Lew semi-retired in 1993 and moved back to his house in Moose Jaw, where he continued to serve as pulpit supply and did the radio broadcast “Back to God Hour” for Central Lutheran Church.  Lew was ordained at age 70 and then moved to Herbert, with Dorothy by his side, to serve as minister at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church in Rush Lake, SK.  He semi-retired again in 2003 but continued to provide pulpit supply to Rush Lake until January 2012.  Lew enjoyed and was very talented at carpentry, drawing, sewing, knitting and self-taught calligraphy.  After retirement, his activities included golfing, bowling, square dancing, spending time playing games with his family, and going to the Maguire Center.  He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Alice; brother, Roy and Herald; sisters: Doris Esch, Peggy Montgomery and Alice Life.  Lew married twice and was predeceased by his wife, Emma in 1952, and his second wife, Dorothy in 2003 after 50 years of marriage.  Lew is survived by and was very proud of his children: Lorna, Tom (Tina), Bill, Garry (Adri), Dale (Lynda), Elwynn, Cathy Lang, BJ Murphy (Ken) and Glen.  He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Roy Dickinson and sister-in-law, Jeanne Booth.  We are grateful for the influence Dad has had on all of our lives and we will miss him dearly.  Our thanks go out to the staff of Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their respectful care of Dad.  A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 10th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Lew’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Ave, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9, The Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert St, Regina, SK S4R 2P6, or to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
