WILLIAM (STANLEY) BECK
1923-2015
William (Stanley) Beck, aged 92 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 30th, 2015 in Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by Margaret, his loving wife of more than 60 years; daughter, Lorraine; and son, Bradley. Stan will be greatly missed by his sons, Grant (Mavis) and Steven (Barb); daughter, Renee Milne (James); and grandchildren: Jason, Christine, Stuart, Reese, Tonisha, Nigel, Shea and Erin. Stan was born at the original Beck farmstead near Mawer, SK. In 1942, he joined the RCAF, becoming a Pilot and Flight Engineer on Lancaster bomber – #427 Lion Squadron. In England, he met Margaret Rennard whom he married in 1947. They farmed in the Mawer/Central Butte area until his retirement in 1987. Stan was an active community man serving on the Sask Wheat Pool, Farmer’s Union, Cubs/Scouts, Co-op Boards, the RM, and the local museum. He played an integral role in the Royal Canadian Legion for more than 50 years. During retirement, they enjoyed many travels to various countries. He was most satisfied with his book of memoirs, “Tell it Like it Was”, and the passive-solar house he designed and constructed. Stan was a clever inventor, a skilled craftsman and enjoyed entertaining all ages with his wit and subtle humour. He always felt his proudest accomplishment was the family he raised. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 6th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Seaborg officiating and light lunch to follow. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Stan’s name may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #213, Box 549, Central Butte, SK S0H 0T0.
