Doreen Wilkinson Aitken
Doreen Wilkinson Aitken aged 100 years of Craik, SK (formerly of Eyebrow, SK), passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22nd, 2023, at the Craik & District Health Centre. Doreen was born on January 8th, 1923, in Gainsborough, SK and was the second daughter of Reverend John and Louise Wilkinson. She attended school in Plenty and Foam Lake, SK. Upon graduation, Doreen completed Teachers Training and taught school at Chaplin, Hodgeville, Quinton, Semans, and Tisdale, SK. During the summers, she attended summer session at the University of Saskatchewan and travelled through the United States, including an Alaskan Cruise. Doreen took a Business course at Moose Jaw Technical School in 1951 and began working as a dental assistant for Dr. Fraser Muirhead in Moose Jaw, SK. In December of 1958, Doreen married Donald Aitken of Eyebrow, SK and moved to the family farm where they raised their family, two sons and a daughter. Doreen was very active in the United Church Women and held the position of Treasurer for many years and was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary enjoying many hours of hospital visiting. Donald and Doreen enjoyed an active retirement with family and friends, visiting and travelling. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and son, Gordon. Doreen is survived by her son, Allan (Sherry); daughter, Lois (Kent) Plumer; daughter-in-law, Joyce Aitken; grandsons: Jonathon Aitken (Janelle – Ella, Myles & Cameron), Justin Aitken (Kylee), and Spencer Aitken (Karleen – Levi & Joree); granddaughters, Bronwen Plumer (Marnus) and Kenna Plumer (Tom); and sisters-in-law, Helen Aitken and Janet Grasdal. A Private Family Service will be held with interment taking place in Sunset Cemetery. To Doreen’s family….I am sorry to hear about your mom, but, she lived a great life and I am sure she was ready to get her wings. I am so glad we stopped in at Thanksgiving to see her. Doreen was a big Eyebrow community supporter. Her generation are missed. I know it is hard to say that final good bye. Doreen will always be in your hearts.
