FRANK FLETCHER HAMILTON
FRANK FLETCHER HAMILTON, aged 86 years of Moose Jaw, and previously of the Mazenod area, passed away on Friday, February 1st, 2008. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8th, 2008 in the Moose Jaw Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Doug Shepherd will officiate. Legion Rites will be under the direction of Roscoe Steele of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59. Frank was born on the family farm at Mazenod in 1921. He spent a year at the College of Agriculture in Saskatoon, before joining the R.C.A.F. in 1940. Frank completed two tours in Bomber Command and was awarded the D.F.C., D.F.M. and C.D. He returned to Canada in 1944 with his wife Olga and remained in the R.C.A.F. until 1951 flying transport in the Arctic and instructing the first NATO pilots. He returned to the farm in the fall of 1951 and served in the community as a Board Member of the Mazenod Co-op; was a Steward in the Mazenod United Church (also, St. Andrew’s United, Winnipeg); was a Boy Scout Leader for the Mazenod troupe; an Association Leader with the 4H Club of Mazenod and a Member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Frank farmed until 1961. In 1961 Frank was appointed to the Board of Grain Commissioners for Canada. He served as Chief Commissioner in Winnipeg for 1962 to 1970. Frank then returned to Regina and served with the Palliser Wheat Growers Association and Board Member of Hudson Bay Route Association. In 1972, Frank married Wanda Jones of Yellow Grass. That same year he was elected Member of Parliament for Swift Current – Maple Creek, retiring in 1984. He served on numerous committees: Agriculture, Defense, Transportation and Veteran’s Affairs. He was awarded the Service Medal – Royal Canadian Legion and also received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal. Frank made numerous trips overseas with parliamentary committees of Defense and Veterans Affairs. He retired to farm in 1984. Frank developed a wildlife habitat and took pleasure in continuing to enhance the environment on the farm. He moved to Moose Jaw in 2002, where he lived until his passing. Frank was predeceased by his parents William and Margaret Hamilton, his first wife Olga, daughter Judy, son Ian, and brother Geoff Hamilton. Frank is survived by his wife Wanda, grandsons; Andrew, Chris, Michael and Matthew; granddaughters Amanda and Kimberly; great grandchildren, Sadey, Benjamin, Alex, Frank and Simon; also brother Gavin (Wilma); nephews Geoff, Murray, Scott and families; niece Margaret; and sister in law Woneeta. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
