Bennet Beresford Lowe

Bennet Beresford Lowe passed away peacefully in Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Friday, October 17th, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Ben was raised in the Baildon district and attended Cataraqui School. He served in the RCAF during WWII, both in England and at home. He met his sweetheart, Jean McKay, while stationed at Calgary. Upon his return from overseas they were married in Winnipeg. Following his discharge from service Ben and Jean farmed in the Tilney district where they raised five children. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1974 where Ben pursued many interests including bowling and restoring vintage aircraft at the Western Development Museum. Ben was a founding director of the Moose Jaw Food Bank and volunteered extensively at Providence Place, the Union Hospital and Minto United Church. He enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports. Ben will be long remembered for his humour, generosity and love for his family. Predeceased by his parents Charles & Huldah Lowe, brother Norman (Frances) Lowe, and sister Margaret (Donald) Cockburn, brother-in-law Kenneth (Freda) McKay, and grand nephew Stephen Edge (Shelagh Newsham). Ben is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean; daughter Connie (Eugene) Erickson of Estevan, Dean and Robyn Erickson; son Graham Lowe (Charlotte McFadden) of Edmonton, Jollean Rayne (Dan London) and Amandah Rayne; daughter Verna (Ken) Straza of Wood Mountain, Cody Straza (Allison Squires) and Karlie Straza; son Bob (Jan) Lowe of Moose Jaw District, Stacey (Dan) Holman, Kate (Joe) Blondeau, and Charlie Lowe; and son Marv Lowe (Judy Radwanski) of Moose Jaw District; great grandsons Alexander Blondeau and Lane London; sister-in-law Verna (Frank) Arnold of Calgary; and numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery at an earlier time.  Rev.
