Kathleen Frances Tracey

Kathleen Frances Tracey died March 13th, 2008 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital following a brief illness. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at 2:00p.m. in the Moose Jaw Funeral Home, Lamont Dyck presiding. Interment will take place at a later date. Born September 3rd, 1915, she was the third of four children born to Eleanora Juschereau Duchesnay and Ralph Godschall Johnson. Predeceased by her husband Michael, brother Grahame Johnson and sister Dorothy Soden, she is survived by her children Martha (Don Mitchell) of Moose Jaw, and Peter (Carol) of Calgary; her grandchildren David (Alison Thomas) Mitchell of Regina and Tracey Mitchell of Saskatoon; her sister Lorraine (Vern) Dale of New Hamburg, Ontario and several nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Elizabeth Soden (Richard McGuire) of Montreal. She was raised and educated in Montreal. On November 2nd, 1939, she married Michael Charles Tracey shortly before he left for the war. World War II kept them apart for five years. On his return they started a family. When Martha and Peter were well established in school, Kathleen studied for a teacher’s certificate. She enjoyed teaching kindergarten in the Montreal area for many years, and was a “natural” with her young students. Kathleen and Michael moved to New Westminster in 1983. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed regular visits to the Coast. In June 2004 she moved to Moose Jaw to be closer to her family. She was a dedicated volunteer worker, putting in countless hours for hospital auxiliaries and other organizations, first in Montreal and later in New Westminster. She made a number of close friends in New Westminster, including the monthly lunch bunch of fellow “ex-pat” Montrealers. Kathleen took great pride in her children, their partners and her grandchildren. Her needlepoint work filled their homes. She will be missed by her family and close friends, some of whom go back to World War II days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 2550 Broad St., Regina, Sk. S4P 9Z9 or a charity of one’s choice.
