Helen Louise Simpkins
Helen Louise Simpkins passed away quietly at home on March 3rd, 2009. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Helen was born on February 14th, 1926 and raised in Tuxford, Saskatchewan. She married the love of her life, George Simpkins in August of 1951. They lived in Moose Jaw where they owned and operated Simpkins Electric. Helen also worked for many years at Sears. Together, Helen and George had one son, Kenneth George. Any one who knew Helen knew she had a huge heart and a wonderful smile. If she wasn’t out for coffee with ‘coffee row’ she could be found at home baking muffins or knitting her ‘granny squares’ for her loved blankets. Helen also had an amazing memory when it came to telling stories about her beloved grandkids and great grandkids. Does dog-poop soup or cardboard cookies sound familiar? Grandma’s favourite shopping motto was ‘If it fits buy it in every colour!’ and that she did. Helen was predeceased by her parents Madison and Lena Bruce; her sisters and best friends Dorothy Durrant and Bernie Best; sister-in-law Lorraine Simpkins; brother-in-law Frank (Doris) Simpkins; mother-in-law Rose Simpkins; and her amazing nephew Alvin Bruce. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband George of Moose Jaw; son Ken (Debby) of Nipawin.; grandchildren Melanie (Brett Litvenenko) of Saskatoon, Brooke of Medicine Hat, Fielding (Lacey Jess) of Nipawin, and Hartley of Saskatoon; and her great grandchildren Karsen and Jordyn Litvenenko; brother Bob (Joyce)Bruce of Moose Jaw; brother-in-law Ken Simpkins; and her many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial donations in Helen’s name may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 150 Albert St., Regina, Sask., S5R 2N2 – a cause that she supported with much devotion, or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Sask., 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, Sk., S7K 2H8. “Grandma Helen we love you and miss you very much.”
