GEORGE ROBERT (BOB) AKE
Bob Ake died suddenly at his home in Avonlea October 1st, 2011 at the age of 81. Bob was born August 11th, 1930 to Jack and Ivy Ake on the family farm in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan. Bob enjoyed truck driving, the gravel business, heavy equipment operation and repair, welding, diesel and gas engine repair. Many came to seek his advice on various mechanical issues. No matter what needed to be done, Bob enjoyed work. He took pride in his accomplishments. In his retirement years, his working interests turned to local seed growing in the Avonlea area. He spent many long and enjoyable hours working in the field. Bob’s friends know that the only music he listened to was country, Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter’s “Storms Never Last” was one of his favorite songs. Bob had a very strong work ethic that was passed on to his children and those around him. No matter what he was teaching, or task being undertaken, Bob expected your best. At all times, Bob presented a tough outer personality that hid a very soft and caring soul. Bob was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Marie (1978), and his sister May (2009). In 1983, Bob married Sandra Thomson from Avonlea. Sandra’s children, Trent, Jason, and Kim joined Bob and his daughters, Barb and Donna.
