Edward Coderre
It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Coderre of Moose Jaw and formerly of Coderre, Sask. announces his passing on Friday, April 8th, 2011. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from Church of Our Lady (566 Vaughan St.) with Father Carlos Jimenez as Presiding Celebrant. Legion Rites will be conducted by Mr. Chuck MacMillan of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59. Predeceased by his parents E.B. and Clodia Coderre; son Claude; son-in-law Elmer Peters; brothers Ivon and Lionel and sisters Lorette and Lucille. Edward will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Laurette; children: Bernard (Sandra) Bernice, Joane (Royce) and Suzette (Garth); grandchildren: Alison, Tara, Leah, Bradley, Kimberly, Michael, Alanna, Megan and Melissa; 9 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Eddie was born in Coderre, SK on October 13th, 1917. He attended school in Coderre and completed his education at Campion College in Regina,SK. He enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1939 and served with the Canadian Postal Corps overseas in the Second World War until 1946. Upon return home, Eddie and his brother Ivon became partners in their father’s business. The store was known as E.B. Coderre and Sons. In 1949, he married Laurette Tremblay. They raised five children and worked together in the family business. In 1957, Eddie became postmaster in Coderre. Eddie was involved in the Coderre community, helping with the Boy Scouts. He was a member of St. Charles Parish, the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. He was also a proud and lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Eddie always had a love of sports, which included the Coderre Cougars baseball team, curling and hockey. His passion for sports was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Eddie was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Montreal Expos and the Toronto Blue Jays to the end. The most important part of Eddie’s life was his family. Nothing made him happier than sharing in his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. In his later years, encouraged by his brother L.P., he became a ham radio operator. Upon retiring to Moose Jaw in 1992, Eddie enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching sports on T.V. He also filled his time by being involved in his grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. He had a long and fulfilling life. As the last Coderre of his generation, the town bearing the Coderre name will continue to live on. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Saskatchewan Lung Assoc. Box 58000, Saskatoon, SK., S7K 7Y4 would be appreciated by the family.
