Doris Mae Fuhr
It is with sadness that we note the passing of Doris Mae Fuhr in Sooke, British Columbia on October 23rd, 2011. Doris was born in Moose Jaw on October 7th, 1928, the youngest of five girls and tenth oldest of 13 children for William and Edith Stewart of Baildon. Doris was predeceased by 11 of her 12 siblings and by her husband, William Francis Fuhr. She is survived by her children: Wendy, Gary (Jane), Gordon (Carol), Ronald (Donna), Randall (Donna) and David; by her brother Dick and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris attended school in Baildon, reaching the 11th grade. She married William Francis Fuhr of Moose Jaw on January 18th, 1947. She raised her children in Moose Jaw, and worked at St. Anthony’s Home, A & W Drive In, Canaday’s Apparel and Pioneer Lodge. After William’s death in 1988, she spent time with her adult children and in the mid 1990’s, moved to Swift Current and then to Calgary to be near David and Gary and his family. In 2005 she moved to Victoria, BC where she has lived independently until the time of her passing. Doris had interests in cooking, crafts, and particularly enjoyed singing around the house. She was treasured by her children for many things, but particularly prized were her fresh-baked cookies, tarts and pies around holiday times. Doris will be missed dearly. Doris will be cremated in Victoria and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held in Moose Jaw at Rosedale Cemetery on Friday, October 28th, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. where she will be laid to rest beside the grave of William. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery gates at 1:15 p.m.
