Lewis (Lew) Murphy
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis (Lew) Murphy on October 12th, 2011 with his wife of 63 years by his side. Lew was born in Krydor, SK on November 15th, 1925. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1929. He began his career with the CPR in 1943 working first as a wiper, then a fireman and finally as an engineer before retiring in 1985. Shortly after starting with the CPR he joined the Navy. His ship – the Trentonian – was the last corvette sank in World War II. While at home awaiting assignment to a new ship, the war ended therefore he returned to his job at the CPR. In November 1945 he met Marion Genevieve Maloney – the love of his life, and they were married on his birthday – November 15th, 1947. They raised 6 children together. He was passionate about his hobby of 25 years – raising, training and racing his standard bred horses. After retiring, Lew and Marion enjoyed two wonderful trips to Ireland. Lew will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marion; his children, Anne (John) Holman – Lumsden, Pat (Joan) Murphy – Moose Jaw, Mary Ellen Sleightholme – Vancouver, Tom (Hazel) Murphy – Cranbrook, Sharon Cawsey – Des Moines, Washington, and Susan (Pat) Robichaud – Pike Lake; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Teresa Boyes – Calgary, and Frances Bathurst – Vancouver; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Loretta Ann; his father, Richard Joseph; brothers, Shirley, Mike, Pat and Jim; sisters, Mary and Aileen; and a daughter, Kathleen Frances in infancy. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 15th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw, SK. Father Rick Krofchek will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, October 14th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Parish Fund, 1064 3rd Ave. N.W. Moose Jaw, SK. S6H 3T9. The family would like to thank the Home Care nurses and the Medical Ward nurses for their care, kindness and compassion.
