James William Nichols
James William Nichols (Jim) passed away at the age of 73 on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 in Moose Jaw. He was born to Bessie and Bill Nichols on the family farm at Pense, section 30-16-22 W 2nd, on September 8th, 1937. Jim took his education in Pense, SK and in Regina at Balfour Technical School. Leaving school while in grade 12 to help his parents and later completing his grade 12 by night classes. Jim obtained his Superior A certificate in local government. His career as a rural municipal administrator began at the RM of Big Arm #251 in 1970 moving to RM of Baildon #131 from 1971 to 1980 moving to the RM of Moose Jaw #161 in 1980. The RM of Hillsborough #132 was added in 1991 retiring in 1998. Jim was awarded the Lou Jacobs award in 1993 to recognize dedication and commitment. Jim married his best friend and soul mate, Sharon Hamilton, in August of 1962. Jim and Sharon have a daughter Lynne and son Ryan. Jim was proud and devoted to his family. Jim was very active in the community. Some of his many involvements were the Hillcrest curling club, MJ Rotary Club, MJ little league, President of MJ Co-op. He was very involved in the Rural Municipal Administrators Association since 1977 serving as Director, Vice-President and President. Jim enjoyed his retirement with curling, golfing, gardening, watching the MJ Warriors, old time dancing and daily walks with the “Grumpy Old Men”. Jim loved all aspects of farming and helping with harvest. Most of all he enjoyed travelling with Sharon in their 5th wheel to many destinations including the last 12 winters in Texas. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sharon of 48 years; daughter Lynne(Scott)Hewitt; son Ryan (Tenille) Nichols; grandchildren Austin and Connor Hewitt, Anesa and Rowyn Nichols; sister Audrey (Bernard) Thibodeau; brother–in–law Ken (Jean) Hamilton; special cousin Bryce (Birdie) Boan. Cremation has taken place. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Rev. Doug Shepherd will officiate.
