Howard Vesper Parchman
On Sunday, August 7th, 2011 Howard Vesper Parchman was suddenly called to join the angels. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by the many people whose lives he touched. Dad was born in LaFleche, Saskatchewan to the late William and Esther Parchman on March 23rd, 1935. He was the third of six children. From humble beginnings, Dad graduated from grade 12 and began his career working with the Royal Bank. He then followed his heart and achieved his Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing at the Saskatchewan Training School in Moose Jaw. It was there he met his wife Carole. He was a nurse instructor and a human resource manager retiring from Valley View Centre in 1987. Though officially retired, he continued rewarding work with seniors groups and gardening centers. Recently we have been reminded that he was instrumental in shaping the careers and lives of others who shared his passions. Our Dad was a quiet hero to many. He was a tireless volunteer and community minded person. He dedicated his time to organizations like Minto United Church, the Humane Society, Meals-on-Wheels, Wildlife Federation, International Children’s Awareness Canada, and seniors groups. He was a special friend and caregiver to many who needed a lift and companion. He would brighten people’s day with his special hugs. One of Dad’s most amazing gifts was his love and time for family. Family travel started with camping, ski trips, sports tournaments of his children and then his grandchildren, trips to Chicago for his beloved Blackhawks, and a family New Year’s holiday in Cuba. Dad and Mom traveled the world together. Their international volunteer work took them to Romania, Jamaica and Cameroon. Dad took great happiness in the simplest of things. He enjoyed spending time in his yard, and especially “his” farm. He loved all God’s creatures but chickens, donkeys and goats topped his list.
Howard, Dad, Papa is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carole and his 3 children Troy (Whitney),Kelly (Tony) Froehlich and Ryan (Rhonda). The biggest part of his heart was reserved for his 3 grandchildren Chloe, Kendra and Evan. Dad was predeceased by his parents, brother Elmer and sister Dolly. Left to cherish his memory are siblings Wilma (Ray) Bourlon, Carl (Beth) and Lorraine Blakely; father-in-law Shorty Bacon and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. A Celebration of Howard’s life will be held on Friday, August 12th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Minto United Church, 1036 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw. Reverend John Carley will officiate. In honour of Dad, please feel free to wear a splash of his favorite colour yellow to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minto United Church Memorial Fund, 1036 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4C4 or to the International Children’s Awareness Canada at icacanada.org.
