Frederick Schroeder
It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Schroeder announces his passing on Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 at the age of 82. Fred will be remembered by his wife of 60 years, Beulah and his children, Joanne (Rod) Van Slyck, Terry, Wendy (Calvin) Ackerman and Fred. He will also be remembered by the grandchildren, Judd (Karen) Van Slyck, Kristy Van Slyck, Shawn Ackerman and Chantal Ackerman; by his three brothers, Joseph (Ruth), Dan (Liz) and John (Shirley). He was predeceased by his brother, Alois and sisters, Daisy and Mary. Fred was born to John and Mary Schroeder at the farm north east of Chamberlain on January 21st, 1929, the youngest of 7 children. He attended Vancise country school and high school in Holdfast, SK. After school he worked in Regina at Sears and the Wheat Pool. In 1951 he married Beulah Stark and they began farming in the Chamberlain district on the Schroeder homestead. On January 1st, 1955, he and his brother Dan purchased Schroeder Bros Implement dealership from his brother Joe and ran the business and farmed for 60 years. Early in life he was an avid curler, winning an eight end pin during the 60’s. He enjoyed travelling and went on many company sponsored trips worldwide. Fred loved fishing and made many trips to Northern Sask with his son-in-law, grandson and sons. He volunteered and served on several boards in the Chamberlain area and was one of the founding members of the Chamberlain Credit Union. Fred enjoyed watching sports, especially football and curling, and was willing and knowledgeable to discuss sports or politics at anytime. Fred was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. A private graveside service will be held for the family. A Time of Fellowship will be held on Friday, June 3rd, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with a tribute to take place at 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations in Fred’s name may be made to the Chamberlain Cemetery Fund c/o Conexus Credit Union Chamberlain Branch, Box 29, Chamberlain, SK.
