Allan Henry Downton
Allan Henry Downton, aged 64 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away Tuesday, May 1st, 2012. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Flora; brother, Ernie and a sister in infancy. Al is survived by his wife, Lucy; son, Rob(Wanda) and their children Chelsea, Robby and Samantha; daughter, Jackie (Neil) Gadd and their children Irelynd and Layne; great-granddaughters, Mataya and Pyper; brothers: Arthur, Garry (Kathy) and Garth; sister, Edna Bryanton; brother-in-law, Ernie (Barbara) Cossette; sister-in-law, Jeannine (Roger) Gaucher; and numerous nieces and nephews. Al was a relentless worker, skilled at his trade as a welder and inspector. The drive for perfection set his work at a “cut above” the accepted level. The love for his family fuelled his passion to achieve and endure. The pain he experienced in his last days was often overcome with a pleasant smile and comforting comment to those he knew were suffering with him. This made it easier for us to endure. Al’s main form of recreation was his motorcycle and the people he dearly loved to take day trips with. Early in life, Al was a top level broomball goalie, often wearing the bruises and welts that were part of the price to pay to get the win. We will always miss Al’s presence, only to have been so fortunate to have had him as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Special thanks to Dr. Hugo, the nurses and staff of the medical ward at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Karen Dixon and Pat Campbell, and to the Palliative Care staff. No flowers please. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Al’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director. 693-4550
