Ina Marguerite Light
It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ina Marguerite Light on October 12th, 2012 at the age of 95. Ina was born April 10th, 1917 in the Sceptre district of Saskatchewan. Ina was the eldest of 4 children – William (Willie), Evelyn and Arthur (Artie) – born to Leon and Annie Blezard. Ina graduated from the Providence Hospital Training School for Nurses, Moose Jaw, Sask. in 1947. Ina made many life long friends during her nurses training, the most important being Norm. They married in July of the same year. In 1953, Heather came into their lives – not their daughter by birthright but by the place held in their heart. Ina’s nursing career didn’t last for many years but was replaced with homemaking – gardening, canning, baking, sewing, as well as bowling, curling, bridge, golf and caring for Heather while her parents were at work. During their years in Moose Jaw, Ina and Norm enjoyed many gatherings with cherished family members. Norm and Ina made friends wherever they went, so it wasn’t long after their transfer to Calgary that their new neighbours the Duncans, Fynebuiks and Roddicks became very dear friends. Ina loved children and was quick to offer to look after their children as they grew their families. In 2009, Ina moved back to Moose Jaw to live with Heather and her husband Swanee. Soon after, she fell and broke her hip and moved into Extendicare. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Ina did her best to look after her roommates and socialize with the staff and residents. Ina was predeceased by her parents, Leon and Annie; husband, Norman; brothers, Willie and Artie; brother-in-law, Alex Hay and sisters-in-law, Verna and Margaret. She is survived by Heather (Swanee) Gemmell, as well as her sister Evelyn Hay, nieces, nephews and their families. A Celebration of Ina’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 20th, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Jon Henry will officiate. We would like to thank Extendicare staff for their loving care of Ina. For those so wishing, memorial donations to the Extendicare Resident’s Council, 1151 Coteau St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 5G5 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Sask., 279 3rd Ave N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 would be appreciated. We have been blessed and our lives enriched by having Ina in our lives. We will miss her always. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Jeff Ofstie, Funeral Director. 693-4550.
