Evelyn McMillan
Evelyn McMillan passed away peacefully January 23rd, 2012 in the loving embrace of her daughter Mickey and son D’Arce. Predeceased by her husband Harry and daughter Maxilee, Evelyn enjoyed a full life, happier than most and longer than all but a few. She was 101. Family was her passion, making a warm and structured life for her joyful clan on Fairford St. where she lived her entire life until age and failing strength caused her to move to Pioneer Lodge where she was lovingly cared for until her passing. Ev was an independent gal for her time and after school helped her mother run their confectionery on Fairford until she met Harry on the floor of Temple Gardens in the late 1930s. Well matched in love, temperament and interests, they danced on through the joys and challenges of life. They discovered square and round dancing in the 1950s and once the demands of child rearing lessened they were able to pursue their hobby fully, enjoying its benefits of fitness and friendship. Ev, Harry and family enjoyed travel and took annual vacations, over the years packing the car with all at hand, mother, children and grandchildren, for adventure and fun, often to the West Coast. When Harry retired from the CPR he and Ev were able to extend their travels across Canada and to Europe. After Harry and Maxilee died in 1990 Ev remained active in dancing and enjoyed her family, attending theatre and concerts with D’Arce, summer barbecues and drinks with Mickey and Lorne and Christmases with her grandchildren’s families in White Rock, BC. She leaves behind Mickey (Lorne) Heron, D’Arce McMillan, granddaughters Shawna (Mike) Connolly, Tanya (Dave) Connolly and son Matthew, and Maxilee’s son Marcus. Predeceased by brother George Tozer and sister Muriel Neithercut. A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, with a short program to start at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan Inc. through CanadaHelps.org.
