EARL SMITH
September 21st, 1919 – March 4th, 2012
Earl, better known as “Smitty” in Eyebrow and surrounding communities, passed away on Sunday, March 4th, 2012. He was the son of J.J. and Alice Smith, pioneers of the Eyebrow District. At age 20, Earl coached the midget hockey team to begin his volunteer work, followed by serving on the R.M. 193 Council, Rec Board, Hall Committee, Village Council and six years as Vice-Chairman on the Board of the Nursing Home in Central Butte. Smitty played with and managed the Eyebrow Ball Team for years. He was better known as a curler and went to bonspiels in all the western provinces with marked success at Regina spiels in the early 1950’s. He was the Eyebrow Curling Club Draw Master for 35 years and spent countless hours making ice in both rinks. The best prizes of his sport were the great people he met and friends he made. A believer helps make life better – His epitaph reads “Laughter Helps Any Day”. Smitty was predeceased by his parents, Alice and J.J. Smith; sister, Grace Glasrud and brother-in-law, Cecil Glasrud. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vera; step-daughters, Dorie Landwer and Gloria (Leif) Madsen; granddaughter, Dana (Jim) Gladden; great-granddaughter, Sarah; and his nephews: Alan, Jim, Ray and Don Glasrud. At Smitty’s request, there will be no Funeral Service. The family would like to thank friends and neighbors for their kindness and support. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Jeff Ofstie, Funeral Director. 693-4550
