Joan Elizabeth Acorn
Joan Elizabeth Acorn (nee Smith) passed away on Sunday, June 9th, 2013. Joan was born April 21st, 1936 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She attended Westmount and Technical Schools. Joan graduated from Davidson Business College. After graduation, she worked at the Moose Jaw Cooperative in the business office until November 26th, 1955 when she married Ruben Acorn and raised their family. Joan had a passion for Stock Car Racing and lately Mud Racing – watching her family compete brought her great enjoyment. She was devoted to her family and her home was open to all. She was a counselor, the doctor, the psychiatrist and the confident to all who needed a dose of her common sense and a cup of coffee. She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Pryor; father, Stanley Smith and stepfather, Bill Pryor. Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Ruben; sons: Randy (Michelle), Kevin and Steven (Sheena); grandsons: Keith (Jolee), Ryan and Payson; great-granddaughter, Dahlia Williamson; sisters: Jean (Wally) Marvin, Gladys (Sheldon) Johnston and Doreen Ruckaber; brothers, Bob (Diane) Pryor and Jim (Annette) Pryor; uncle, Ern Usher; aunt, Marge Hall; Ruben’s siblings and their spouses; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service. A Memorial “Coffee” and Lunch will be held at the Eagle’s Hall, 561 Home St. W., Moose Jaw, SK on Monday, June 17th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Please join the family in celebrating Joan’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s name may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 309 Saskatoon, SK S7K 3L3.
