Len Hurtig

Len Hurtig, aged 90 years of Central Butte, SK, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5th, 2013 in Gravelbourg, SK after a brief illness with family by his side.  He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Thilda Hurtig; brothers, Elvin (Elsie predeceased) and Cecil (Pats); and sister, Lila Kurz (Art predeceased). Left to mourn Len are his sister, Beatrice Murdock (Jack predeceased), Saskatoon, SK; brother, Norman Hurtig, Moose Jaw, SK; and eleven nieces and nephews: Lanny Murdock, Calgary, AB, Karen Murdock (Adrian Ewen predeceased), Saskatoon, SK, Heather Goss (Ralph), Regina, SK, Faye Patmore (Larry), Fort Vermilion, AB, Bud Kurz (Heidi), North Vancouver, BC, Alana Nordstrand (Doug), Port Coquitlam, BC, Karl Kurz (Ellen), Burnaby, BC, Eileen Burke (Mike), Whitehorse, YT, Deb Cairns, Unity, SK, Rodger Hurtig, Unity, SK and Denise Hurtig, Cobble Hill, BC. Len was born September 12th, 1923 on the farm.  He lived in Riverhurst/Central Butte area all of his life and farmed in the district for many years.  He was active on the local Sask. Wheat Pool Board. He was an active curler and enjoyed horseshoes, winning trophies for both. In his own quiet way Len always supported the many events hosted in the community. Len retired from farming in 2003, but continued to help Norman on the farm until 2010.  He enjoyed the farm life.  The family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital/Foyer d’Youville, Gravelbourg, SK for the care extended to Len during his brief stay with them. In keeping with Len’s wishes, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Central Butte Cemetery.  The family invite the public for coffee and fellowship at April’s Diner, Central Butte, SK from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 13th, 2013.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Len’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
