Jean Evelyn Lowe
Jean Evelyn Lowe passed away in Extendicare Moose Jaw on Thursday, August 15th, 2013 at the age of 89 years. Jean was born in Calgary and was raised on a ranch near Cessford, Alberta. She attended Normal School in Calgary and later enlisted in the RCAF, Women’s Division. She met her sweetheart Ben, a young RCAF member, at a dance in Calgary. They were married in Winnipeg in 1945 upon Ben’s return from war overseas. Following their discharge from service, Jean and Ben farmed in the Tilney district where they raised five children. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1974 where Jean started working with Sears, and along with Ben became founding directors of the Moose Jaw Food Bank. Jean volunteered extensively at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Providence Place, Red Cross and the Moose Jaw Health Foundation. She was an avid gardener and took pride in growing flowers and preparing food for friends and family. Jean will long be remembered for her generous support and love for her family and others. She was predeceased by her husband, Bennet; parents, William and Ethel McKay; brother, Kenneth (Freda) McKay; brother-in-law, Norman (Frances) Lowe; and sister-in-law, Margaret (Donald) Cockburn. Jean is survived by her daughter, Connie (Eugene) Erickson of Estevan, Dean Erickson (Mariah Earnshaw) and Robyn Erickson (Luke Hannon); son, Graham (Charlotte McFadden) of Edmonton, Jollean Rayne (Dan London) and Amandah Rayne; daughter, Verna (Ken) Straza of Wood Mountain, Cody Straza (Allison Squires) and Karlie Straza; son, Bob (Jan) Lowe of Moose Jaw District, Stacey (Dan) Holman, Katie (Joe) Blondeau and Charlie Lowe; and son, Marv Lowe (Jude Radwanski) of Moose Jaw District; great-grandsons: Alexander Blondeau, Lane London, Carsen London and Bennet Hannon; great-granddaughters: Jolee Blondeau, Lily Holman, Claire Holman and Harper Holman; sister, Verna (Frank) Arnold of Calgary; and numerous other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held on Friday, August 23rd, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery at an earlier time.
