Pierre Charles Morissette
With great sadness the family of Pierre Charles Morissette announces his sudden passing on May 28th, 2013. Pierre was born July 3rd, 1947 in Quebec City. There he grew up and attended Laval University where he majored in history. He fondly spoke about working his way through university as an employee at Chateau Frontenac, where also he met his first wife Irene. In 1970 he moved to Saskatchewan to study French Canadian history and in 1976 completed a Masters degree at the University of Regina, after which he and Irene settled in Quebec until 1982 when they made their permanent home in Moose Jaw as French Immersion teachers. Pierre had many roles throughout his teaching career, principal at St. Margaret’s School, curriculum author for the Separate School Board in Regina, and finally a high school teacher at Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw. In 1996, Pierre was blessed with a second great love, his wife Loraine. He retired in 2005 and spent much of his time working in the yard, making his daily (sometimes even more than that) shopping trips for whatever goods he considered would eventually be in short supply of, and to Safeway every morning for his papers and baked goods. He enjoyed fishing and cooking, and took great pleasure travelling with Loraine on RV trips or to Hawaii. Even after retirement, Pierre continued to be a great teacher; he read and critiqued everything Deanna wrote and helped Riely practice his French. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Morissette (née Perra); parents, Charles-Emile Morissette and Jeanne-d’Arc Gosselin. Pierre is lovingly remembered by his wife, Loraine; his sisters: Helene Morissette (Yvon Payeur), Francine Morissette and Loulou Morissette; his children: Julienne Morissette (Tyler Cobb), Nicole Morissette (Taj Kang), France Morissette (Joshua Spragg), Deanna (Kevin) Bickford and David (Sheryl) Parry; his grandchildren: Crystal Bickford, Victoria (Adam) Fortune and Josh (Tara) Bickford; and his great-grandchildren, Riely Bickford and Jesiah Bickford. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Shepherd officiating. A Time of Visitation for Family and Friends will take place on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pierre’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan Inc., 301-2550 – 12th Ave., Regina, SK S4P 3X1. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director. 693-4550.
