Georgina Kathleen Mae Pouteaux
Georgina Kathleen Mae Pouteaux (Arnold) passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years on Saturday, July 13th, 2013 with her family by her side. Georgina was born in Gravelbourg, SK on December 1st, 1929. She grew up on the family farm outside of Shamrock, SK with her siblings: Carol, Evelyn, Robert (Bob) and Beverly. Georgina graduated from High School in Shamrock, SK and then went to Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK. Upon completion, she taught at Ruenn and Shamrock School for 2 years. While teaching in Shamrock, she married Albert Pouteaux on July 18th, 1951 and briefly lived in the teacherage until they purchased their own house. They farmed and resided in Shamrock, SK where they began raising their four children. They purchased a house in Moose Jaw, SK in 1964 and still called it home today. Albert and Georgina continued to farm at Shamrock, SK until 1973 when they purchased their farm outside of Briercrest, SK. Both loved the farm and were actively involved with all aspects of Brier Farms until their passing. Georgina and Albert later purchased a home and an orange grove in Weslaco, Texas where they spent 19 winters. They enjoyed the warm weather and making new friends. Georgina’s passion for knowledge and learning kept her busy taking Spanish lessons and making numerous crafts. Georgina had a zest and love for life. As an eternal optimist, she always saw the positive side in every situation. Some of her favourite pastimes and hobbies included painting, gardening, playing cards, dancing, crossword puzzles, collecting owls and she loved to read anything and everything. Georgina was the heart and soul of her family. She was a loving individual who devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her friends and family. She was a thoughtful woman who always put everyone ahead of herself. Georgina is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Scott) Duncan; daughter, Cathy (Steve) Gilroy; sons, Vern and Harold Pouteaux; 7 grandchildren: Steve, Michael, Brandy, Carrie, Nathan, Tyler and Kyla; 10 great-grandchildren: Raea, Kaitlyn, Ryder, Jaxin, Alex, McKenzie, Ben, Willow, Mila and Sullivan. She will be fondly remembered by her sister, Beverly Arnold; brother-in-law, Marvin Barker; sister-in-law, Jacqueline (Bernard) Novakowski; brother-in-law, Roy (Joyce) Pouteaux; sister-in-law, Lucy Pouteaux; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Pouteaux (June 20th, 2013); parents, Jake and Stella Arnold; sisters, Carol Barker and Evelyn Arnold; brother, Robert (Annette) Arnold; and brother-in-law, Raymond Pouteaux. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Glenys Grosenick officiating. A private family interment will follow at a later date.
