Alexander Shanks
May 18th, 1930 – March 15th, 2013
Our beloved Alex, husband, father, and grandfather rode his horse to home on Friday, March 15th, 2013, and now has closed the circle of the Shanks’ Clan. He was born and raised in Bethune. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Angus and Christine, his sisters Peggy (Archie) Cameron, Christina (Les) Webster, Jean Patience, Bessie (Reuben) Hill, Jessie (Bob) Troquair, brothers John (Irene) Shanks and Bill Shanks; his first wife Jean and brother-in law Jim Clark. Alex is survived by his loving family, wife Colleen, daughters Sherry and Shauna Inglis, son Jason Shanks, grandson Logan Inglis, long time family member Randy, and his two best furry friends Colby and Rusty; in-laws Shirley Shanks, Charlie Patience, Elfie Martens, Neil (Bev) Clark, Dorthy (Dale) McAfee, Allen (Audrey) Clark, Pat Clark, many nieces and nephews. Alex was a farmer all his life at Stony Beach and south of Moose Jaw. He also worked as a frontiersman for 10 years and jet refueler at C.F.B. for 13 years. His interests included playing goal for Bethune hockey team for 20 years, playing baseball, as well as umpiring; riding on wagon trails, spending time at their cabin at Buffalo Pound and later travelling and camping in their 5th wheel. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and curling on TV. He readily cheered for any football team as long as it wasn’t the Riders! Alex was a spirited Scotsman and a true farmer at heart…he loved the land and ranch life. His next love was to have family, friends and parties at their place, Southern Comfort Ranch. At Alex’s request a Celebration of his Life will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 561 Home St West, Moose Jaw on Wednesday March 20th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Place Healing Gardens, 100 2nd Ave. East, Moose Jaw, SK. S6H 1B8 or the Alzheimer Assoc. of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 – 12th Ave. Regina, SK. S4P 3X1. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director.
