ANDREWS (JEFFERY)
October 3rd, 1918 – March 4th, 2014
It is with sadness that the family of Dorothy Violet Catherine Andrews announces her passing on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 in Moose Jaw, SK at the age of 95 years. Dorothy was born on October 3rd, 1918 in Egham, Surrey, Middlesex, England to Ernest and Elsie Jeffery. At the age of five, she came to Canada with her parents. She was the eldest of 3 girls. Mom attended Empire School in Moose Jaw and later, when they moved out to the Brittania Park west of town, she finished her education in the Coburg School District. In 1937 she married Les Andrews, the son of Horace and Annie Andrews in Moose Jaw. She was an amazing mother and homemaker, always making room for guests in her home. For many years her grandchildren loved staying with her, enjoying her famous lemon pies as well as being the recipient of her many other baked treats. Mom would never turn down a good game of Yatzee or a game of cribbage. She showered her love on all of her grandchildren and delighted them when she would play a tune on her harmonica. When most of her children were grown, she began working outside the home, working her way through many positions. A chambermaid at the Park Hotel, a cashier at Kreskies, an elevator operator in the Hammond Building, as a dry cleaner at Crescent Cleaners, a night custodian at SIAST and finally as a Nurses Aide at St. Anthony’s Home. Mom made many friends through the years. She enjoyed bowling for many years with the Slowboats Bowling League which she helped to found, later in life she played 10 pin bowling and helped out with the wheel-chair bowlers. She was an avid reader and was never without a good book. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Peggy Alho and Eva Griggs; daughter, Francis; grandchildren: Lynn Robinson, Sandra Shea and David Shea; great-grandchild, Jody McSween; as well as her children’s father, Les Andrews. Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Bernice (Rob) Robinson, Patsy (Ed) Liberet, Leslie (Al) Unrau and Dorothy (René) Croteau; son, Bill (Carole) Andrews; grandchildren: Shelley McSween, Richard Robinson, Tim (Welly) Robinson, Nancy (Tom) Hadley, Tereasa (Lee) Bellows, Brenda (Victor) Savoie, Randy (Debbie) Liberet, Diana Liberet, Kelly Liberet, Tracey (Daniel) Lamothe, Shannon (Bobby) Severin, Sheri (Jerry) Buffet, Tammy (John) Stoffels, Lori (Jim) Larsen, Mark (Carmen) Croteau, Graham Croteau, Matthew Croteau, Andrew Croteau and Daniel (Jaquiline) Andrews; 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, her doctors and the staff at Pioneers Lodge for the care and kindness given to Mom and the support offered to her family. In accordance to Mom’s wishes, no Funeral Service will be held. A Celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends on Friday, April 11th, 2014. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
