William Vaughan Cridland
William Vaughan Cridland passed away on Friday, January 31st, 2014 due to complications following surgery. He was a resident of Chateau St. Michael’s in Moose Jaw. Bill was born on May 27th, 1925 to Victor and Minnie Cridland. He grew up on a farm near Mantario, SK. He was the eldest of seven children. Bill married Ruth Nunweiler on March 9th, 1950. Together they farmed and raised 5 children, retiring to Kindersley in 1982. Bill was Reeve of the R.M. of Chesterfield for 14 years and a Sub Unit Director for SARM. He was active in service organizations such as Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge (for more than 50 years), Shriners and Lions Club. Bill was an avid curler and ball player in early years and a golfer upon retirement. His hobbies included woodwork and model airplanes. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Minnie; sisters, Elsie Cridland and Frances Gordon; daughter, Adele Bennett; and grandson, Jason Westbury. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth; daughters: Janet (Gary) Westbury, Cheryl Elniski and Kim (Reuben) Bahnman; son, Bill (Shelley); son-in-law, Clifford Bennett; sisters: Florence (Don) Startin, Bess Shillington and Gladys (Bill) Hitchcock; brother, Jim (Lorna) Cridland; grandchildren: Stacey (Aaron Wilson), Alyssa Bennett, Meko, Miheret, Tenaye and Mitike Cridland; great-grandchildren, Cameron Getz Bennett and Harlow Wilson; sisters-in-law, Jean (Jim) Hamilton and Donelda (Allan) Stern; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children, c/o Moose Jaw Shrine Club, 1767 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 1L6.
