Joe Froehlich
We announce, with deep sadness, the passing of Joe Froehlich in the early morning dawning light of Thursday, May 22nd, 2014. Joe was born in Tuxford, SK to Mary Ellen and Leonard on April 9th, 1927. Joe’s passion was centered on the land. As a consummate farmer he nurtured the land for over 65 years. He saw the farm flourish as each season passed. Joe had an engaging personality and a true natural gift for connecting with people. He took great pleasure in many activities but his greatest passion was for music, singing, dancing and foremost, guitar playing. In living a lifetime in Marquis, SK he made significant contributions, including establishing the Marquis Senior Centre and playing lifelong leadership roles in organizations including the Knights of Columbus and Marquis Community Club. Also, as the certified community plumber he gave generously of his time. He was well versed in current events as he enjoyed pouring over newspapers each and every day. This led to his being a talented and much sought-after public speaker. As grandfather to Jeffrey, Alastair, Rachel, Mark, Justin and Jaxson, he took great interest and pride in their numerous activities and accomplishments. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Elsie. Joe will be forever and sadly missed by his four children, their spouses and six grandchildren. To cherish his memory are Maureen (Ronald) Scheurkogel, Dr. Lorraine (Christopher) Nicol, Debbie (Bryon) Shimming and Lorne (Kim) Froehlich. His memory will also be treasured by many relatives and friends. In recognition of his deep devotion to his Catholic faith, a Prayer Service will be held on Monday, May 26th, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Church in Marquis, SK with Father Rick Krofchek officiating. In Joe’s memory, contributions may be made to the St. John’s Cemetery Fund, Box 54, Marquis, SK S0H 2X0 or to the Canadian Cancer Society for Bladder Cancer Research, 1910 McIntyre St., Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
