Muriel Emily Poulter
Muriel Emily Poulter aged 96 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014. She was born on February 3rd, 1918 and was raised on a farm at Blofield School District in the Tuxford area. She attended Blofield School and then took her Grades 9 and 10 by correspondence. After her school years, she did housework in the Tuxford area and then moved to Moose Jaw. Muriel joined the Air Force in November 1941 and was stationed in Toronto, Moncton and then Ottawa. She was then posted overseas to London RCAF Headquarters and spent 2 ½ years there. When the war was over, she came back to Moose Jaw and received her discharge in Calgary. She received her corporal stripes. Muriel then started working part-time in the summer of 1946 at Palm Dairies and became full-time in June 1947, a career that lasted 36 years until her retirement in 1983. Muriel kept busy her whole life – travelling, taking up golf, playing darts and bowling. She was proud to be an active member of the Royal Purple Lodge #9 for 50 years and a Legion and Auxiliary member for many years. She was also a member of the Lynbrook Golf Course and the Anavets. She loved life and was always there with a warm heart if someone needed help. She was predeceased by her best friend, Darrel Perry in 1983; brother Jim in 1981; sister, Mary in 1989; brother, Charles in 1999; nephew, Allan in 1996 and niece, Beryl in 2014. Muriel leaves to mourn her loss, her niece, Marlene (Dennis) Down of Parkbeg; Gladys Cooper (Wayne McKeon) of Saskatoon; special friends: Thora, Gladys and Shirley; great-nieces and nephews; as well as many friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 26th, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion will officiate and interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Rites will be conducted by Dan MacAulay and the Royal Purple Moose Jaw Lodge #9 will form an honour guard. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Muriel’s name may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8.
