Roger Ernest Haig
Roger Ernest Haig (November 29th, 1924-January 2nd, 2015). Forever treasured husband, cherished father, loving grandpa, little brother, favourite uncle and dear friend. Born and raised in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, Roger made his life farming the family land west of Rouleau. He was a farmer through and through. He loved the excitement of seeding in the spring, working the land through the seasons and watching that hard work sprout through the soil. He enjoyed discussing the crops with his neighbours and loved the harvest when he would watch with pride as their years’ efforts were tucked away safely in the bin. Roger was a man of his word. He did what he said he was going to do and held true to those who were closest to him. He spent countless hours helping his community and was proud to tell anyone he was from ‘Dog River’. He was a man of strong mind, strong will and a man to cut his own path. He had a sense of humour quite unlike any other. He always made sure that everyone he spoke with walked away with a smile on their face. He had a joy for life and loved spending time with those he loved the most. Roger had a unique way of making everyone he came into contact with feel special in their own way and he made sure each and every member of his family knew how much they meant to him. He was truly one of a kind. Roger married the love of his life, Fay Sorenson on February 23rd, 1963. Together they farmed, they travelled, they built a home, they laughed, they loved and they created a wonderful life. Fay will continue to celebrate Roger’s life along side their daughter Allison, son-in-law Ryan Kotrla, and her two very special grandsons Matthew and Tanner. Fay’s sisters Beth Akins and Linda and Ian Douglas were very special to Roger as were his many nieces, nephews and special friends and they will share in their remembrance. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital for the amazing care they showed Dad over his many stays there and to Dr. Geyer for his care and concern for Dad and Mom far beyond his scope of practice. To the first responders of Rouleau: you made many very difficult times for Mom and Dad much easier to handle, knowing you were there to care for him. Thank-you. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Reverend Jo Mader officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rouleau & District First Responders, Rouleau United Church or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
