Erva Viola Smith
Erva Viola Smith, born March 24th, 1946, passed away on Sunday, January 11th, 2015 with the loving care of the ICU Nursing Staff by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Doris Seaborg and infant daughter, Jodi. Erva leaves to mourn: her husband, Lloyd; son, Darin (Stacey); granddaughters: Kayley, Tori and Paige; great-granddaughter, Claire; and son, Trent. Erva and Lloyd were married on April 17th, 1965. She loved her family, was a wonderful homemaker, cook, baker and cleaner, until it became time for her to sit and tell Lloyd how to do it “her way”. Erva loved to work for the socializing and helping Lloyd with their family business, Smitty’s Painting. She worked at Super Meats and later Fine Foods until she was unable to work. That’s when her home really turned into a drop-in centre for close friends. Erva was a joy to be around, an amazing hostess (proved by all the women who stopped in for coffee, dessert or a beer). Christmas Eve was when she was admitted to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital ICU, where she remained until her passing. This gave her family and close friends time to cherish her. Erva’s best day was Sunday, January 4th, 2015 when all of her family was with her. She always had a smile and a “sparkle in her eyes”, noted an ICU nurse. Erva’s granddaughter always said that “Grandma is my best friend”. A special thank you to Cheryl Thul, a best friend, and to family and friends who supported her in her last days. A Private Celebration of Erva’s Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Erva’s name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
