Merridy Ann Campbell
Merridy Ann Campbell, collector of fine jean jackets, interior decorator and re-decorator, elaborate hostess and world traveller, passed away on Monday, April 30th, 2018 at the age of 61 years. Vehemently denying she rode a horse to school, Merridy grew up on the family farm on the Keeler grid. She was the only daughter of the Cadillac racing, large living, and fun loving Gerry and Helen English. She spent her school years between Grayburn, Indio, and Mortlach, SK. It was Mortlach where she came across the very dashing Alex Campbell – who turned out to be her soul mate and best friend until the day she died. Together they brought four very strong willed children into this world, whom she dutifully nurtured on the same farm she grew up on, imparting the essential skills of wall papering, water hauling, flower growing, and sun tanning. Her endless energy kept everyone on the go – sometimes without the doors completely closed on the car. Merridy was an avid hockey mom, swim coach, dance costume maker and chauffeur to countless activities that we maybe should have appreciated more, especially piano. On top of juggling all this, she managed to move a countless array of farm equipment, hauled her fair share of crock pots to the field, and hunted down bales of stray receipts. Merridy loved her family but a distant second would be shopping – whether it be Christmas decorations, anything from Ricki’s, or a white flower arrangement – it would make her day. She was a crier, a dog lover, and an incessant mispronouncer of words. She was gullible, especially when it came to CNN reporting or how the farm obtained all their foreign workers. But she had the best sense of humor and a contagious laugh, and she had many friends because of it. Merridy was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and so very much fun! Her life got even better as she welcomed two daughters-in-law and later, two sons-in-law to the fold, and six grandchildren in between. Merridy madly loved her family and was happiest when she could spend time with them. During these last few years, as her health started to fail, she kept in touch with regular phone calls to the people she loved. She never ended a call without saying “I love you”. She was predeceased by her mom and dad, Helen and Gerry English. Merridy is survived by her best friend, Alex; children: Bree and Curtis, Ashton and Paul, Kyle and Amanda, Riley and Brittany; grandchildren: Gracii, Davis, Bennett, Amara, Ruby, and Aubrey; brother, Steph (Carol); special cousins: Joan English and Tom Gallagher, and Norma and Joe Campbell. In keeping with Merridy’s wishes, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Merridy’s name may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 650 Coteau St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 5E6. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Surtees Funeral Director 306-693-4550
