SHIRLEY MAY PORTER
February 7th, 1935 – September 1st, 2018
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Shirley passed away in her sleep after a short period of illness on Saturday, September 1st, 2018. Shirley was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan to Henry and Eva Baron (Irwin) and attended local schools until 1948 when the family moved to Leduc, Alberta. Despite serious illness as a teenager Shirley completed most of high school where she displayed a talent for art. After an introduction by her Uncle Earl, Shirley married Charles Porter on November 29th, 1955. They built a house in Wilkie and Charlie farmed with his father, Bill Porter. In 1968 they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Cheryl into their lives. The family lived in Wilkie until retirement in Saskatoon in 1989. They enjoyed travelling in their motor home to the Rocky Mountains and the Oregon coast. Shirley enjoyed art lessons, playing cards and especially enjoyed her guinea pigs. In 2015, Shirley and Charlie moved to Moose Jaw, SK to be closer to their daughter, Cheryl. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Eva Baron; her brother and his wife, Howard and Linda Baron; son-in-law, Darren Chase; and sadly exactly one year ago her husband, Charlie. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Chase; granddaughter, Alexis Chase; sister, Audrey (Rodney) Peat; uncle, Earl Irwin; as well as several extended family members. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and especially remembered for her love of shopping, playing spider, and talking on the phone. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, a Private Family Service will be held. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Shirley’s name may be made to SCRAPS, PO Box 1653, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7.
