Thomas Robert “Bob” Hicks
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Robert “Bob” Hicks. He left us in the early hours of Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 at 80 years of age. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Clara; brothers, Cyril and Wesley; and sisters: Margaret, Ruth and Vivian. Bob will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Maxine; his children: Kim (Diane) of North Carolina, Kevin (Melissa) of Toronto, and Shelley (Kelvin) Meadows of Moose Jaw; and his six grandchildren: Chelsea (John), Taylor, Kirstin, Shae, Dash and Piper. Bob was born in Tuxford, SK on February 19th, 1936. He grew up on the family farm near Marquis, graduated from Peacock High School and received his Diploma of Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. Bob and Maxine (Fiske) met through friends in Moose Jaw, married in 1957 and farmed in the Marquis area for many years. Bob was always trying something new, from raising laying hens to Chianina cattle to hogs. In the early 90’s he started a family owned seed business on the farm and later became a Sask Crop Insurance agent. He also worked as the curling manager/ice maker in Moose Jaw in the winter months and after retiring from farming, he continued his ice making career in Red Deer and High River. In 2004, he retired again and they returned to Moose Jaw where Bob took up beekeeping and started work on another family business. Bob was an avid curler and realized his dream of representing Saskatchewan in the Brier in 1976. He enjoyed music, dancing, camping, travelling, golfing, skiing, volunteer work and most of all, spending time with his family. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at 1:30 pm in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Adam Driscoll will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
