Mrs. Rita Mary Cannon (née Skeffington)

Mrs. Rita Mary Cannon (née Skeffington), aged 85 years of Marquis, SK, passed away on Sunday, August 13th, 2017.  Rita was born in Marquis, SK on May 22nd, 1932.  She received her education at St. Mark’s School in Marquis and worked as a telephone operator from 1949-1956, when she married George Cannon on November 14th, 1956.  Rita was very active in numerous community activities, including teaching knitting through 4-H for over 20 years, the Marquis Community Club, the local church, and especially loved curling and baseball.  She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Edith Skeffington; husband, George Cannon; sisters, Ruth Arnott and Dori Mayer; son, Chuck Cannon; and grandson, Patrick Cannon.  Rita leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Mary Ann (Murray) Jaster, Mallory and Meaghan (Nathan); (Marlene), Christopher (Joanne) and his daughter Beth, Kevin (Janelle), Jenna and Eric (Jaylee); Betty Lou, April and Brian (Savannah); Mike, Justin (Alanna) and Brandin; Joe; and Tom (Tracey), Dexter, Nathan, Hunter and Sabra; brother-in-law, Don Cannon; sisters-in-law, Maxine and Hazel Cannon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Marquis, SK.  Father Hector Seville will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Marquis, SK.  A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s name may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert St, Regina, SK S4R 2P6.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
