Jay Chesney
With fond memories and sad hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jay Chesney, on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Jay was born at the family farm near Strathallen, SK on April 29th, 1925. He attended the Cold Creek (one room) school and proudly told us the story of receiving the ruler on his first day there. He had to leave school after grade 8 to work on the family farm and later went to Ontario on a harvest excursion. When Jay returned to Saskatchewan he met the love of his life, Margaret Curtis. They were married in 1951 in Assiniboia, SK and then settled down in Rockglen, SK. In 1953 they moved to Moose Jaw where Jay started working for the City of Moose Jaw. He drove cab for 25 years with Amil’s Taxi, moved on to Jack’s Jiffy and ended his career with Moose Jaw Housing. Both Margaret and Jay were very involved in bowling, as well as all of their children and grandchildren’s sports. Jay loved the Blue Jays and followed them for years. He was proud of the fact that he tried his first Coke when he was just 9 years old and continued having a coke a day until the day he passed. Jay was also a big fan of McDonald’s and was lucky enough to have had this for his last meal. Jay will be sadly missed by his wife of over 65 years, Margaret; children: Bev (Bob) Hein of Moose Jaw, SK, Linda (Adrian) Raaber of Regina Beach, SK, Shirley (Nakul) Reddy of Calgary, AB, Don Chesney (Roxanne Johnston) of Moose Jaw, SK, Sharon (Ron) Taylor of Cherry Grove, AB, and Gayle (Murray) Feist of Moose Jaw, SK; as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Providence Place and Caleb Village for making his final years enjoyable and for putting up with his jokes. In keeping with Jay’s wishes, a Private Family Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jay’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan, #301-2550 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
