Mabel Lorraine Korbo
Mabel Lorraine Korbo, aged 83 years of Moose Jaw, and formerly of Elbow and Coronach, SK, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8th, 2017 with family by her side. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Lutz officiating. A Graveside Service for Ole and Lorraine will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Coronach, SK at 3:30 p.m. Lorraine attended Oxbow School. She then attended Normal School in Moose Jaw where she met her future husband. She taught school near Old Wives Lake, SK. Lorraine married Ole Korbo on April 6th, 1953. They purchased the High Crest School, moved it to their farm, renovated it and raised their family in their new home. For many years Lorraine designed gardens and farm yards, and sold trees from Prairie Nurseries in Estevan. She also taught painting classes throughout southern Saskatchewan. They built a cottage near Elbow in the late 70’s and Lorraine opened a gift shop. They eventually built their own store, Driftwood Studio, and purchased a house in Elbow, where they retired to in 1996. Lorraine was now able to indulge fulltime in her passion for painting and other crafts. Lorraine and Ole were part of the Bethel Lutheran Church congregation in Elbow. Lorraine’s hobbies included gardening, painting, woodworking, and other crafts. She was predeceased by Ole, her husband for almost 60 years; mother, Myrtle and father, James; brothers, John McKenzie and Albert McKenzie; and brothers-in-law, Delmar Smith and Oscar Knudson. Lorraine is survived by their seven loving children: Brad (Nancy) Korbo, Kathy Korbo, Robert Korbo, Linda Jacobs, Sally (Ron) Matt, Tracy Korbo and Chris Fairbrother. She is also survived by her brother, James (Emily) McKenzie; sisters, Isabelle Smith, Flora Knudson; and Sharon Dalziel; and brothers-in-law, Anton Korbo (Louise) and Otto Korbo (Isabel). Lorraine Korbo is survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, with another great-great-grandchild on the way. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Lorraine’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 – 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
