Marilyn Laura McKee (née Browne)
It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother, Marilyn Laura McKee (née Browne) on Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 at the age of 60 years. Marilyn was born on February 25th, 1957 in Regina, SK to Claude and Elizabeth Browne. She resided in Rouleau until high school and later moved to Mossbank where she graduated Grade 12 in 1975. She married the love of her life, Lawrence, in 1977. After moving to the McKee family farm, Marilyn began working at the Coderre Hotel, all while continuing to help on the farm with the numerous tasks she took on full force and with enthusiasm. Marilyn and Lawrence were blessed with their son, Chris, in 1980 and three years later with their daughter, Carla, in 1983. Their two kids were absolutely their greatest gift, drive, and desire for all that the future was to hold. Marilyn took on the daily job of driving school bus full-time in the fall of 1988 after a couple years of sub-driving. She drove school bus to Mossbank for 12 years before pursuing her true calling when she was elected to the Federated Co-operatives Board of Directors in 1999. This is where Marilyn’s passion for people and giving back to communities really began to shine. She served on numerous committees, including those that saw her travel to Indonesia and the Philippines to help develop new co-operatives. She happily served on the Board until she retired in February of 2015. Marilyn spent her winter months with Lawrence in Mesa, Arizona over the last seven years and their summer months were spent spoiling their precious grandkids at home. She was a treasured friend to many and touched the hearts of everyone she met, with many new acquaintances becoming lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her father, Claude Browne; and sister, Normetta Katona of Athabasca, AB. Marilyn is survived and dearly missed by her husband of 40 years, Lawrence; son, Chris (Jill) McKee and grandchildren Cody and Chase of Moose Jaw, SK; daughter, Carla (Derek) Nyhus and grandchildren Parker and Kate of Rouleau, SK; and her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Browne of Gravelbourg, SK. A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hildebrand Chapel, 510 College Drive, Caronport, SK with reception to follow. Reverend Tim Ellis will officiate and interment will take place at Mossbank Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the celebration to remember and honour all the lives that she touched so deeply. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn’s name may be made to Indigenous Pathways, 1030 Bogue Ave, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4M5 in support of the Atamiskākēwak Gathering 2018 (Atamiskākēwak means “Shaking Hands with Each Other in Greeting”) in Moose Jaw, SK. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
