DENNIS LAWRENCE MCKENNA
November 28th, 1948 – July 13th, 2017
Dennis was born in Vancouver and raised in Moose Jaw, SK where he met and married the love of his life, Cheryl Bruvold. After their marriage they moved to Calgary, AB for 3 years and then to Slave Lake, AB for 1 year. Dennis loved the outdoors, back roads, and hunting in his younger years. Nothing, gave him more pleasure than camping out with friends and going moose or deer hunting. In later life he hung up his rifle and just enjoyed the camping, fishing, and looking for wildlife and nature, and talking to his sons and showing them the lessons in life that he had learned was his passion. He loved showing his kids how to do carpentry, how to fix a car, or repair a lamp. His talents were many and his family reaped the benefit of his knowledge. For over 25 years Dennis worked as a self-employed carpenter in the Moose Jaw area. After moving to Calgary in 2001 Dennis continued in carpentry, building condos and doing renovations. In 2009, Dennis and Cheryl semi-retired as Resident Managers for a storage company until declining health forced retirement in 2015. Dennis was predeceased by his father, Lawrence; mother, Vera Geldert; Mom, Estella McKenna; brother, James (Jim); father-in-law, Oliver; brother-in-law, Everett; and several wonderful close friends. Dennis will be forever missed by his loving wife, Cheryl; sons: Codey, Larry, and Tony (Tamara); grandchildren: Karma, Kaylee, and Braeson; brothers: Pat (Marta), Les (Cheryl), Rob (Brenda); sisters: Bonnie (Gary) and Darlene (Michael); mother-in-law, Stella; special sisters, Barb and Debbie; as well as many nieces and nephews, an uncle, and aunts.
