Robert Douglas Richards
December 8, 1937 – July 20, 2024
Bob peacefully passed away at the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital with family at his side.
Bob and his cousin, Anne Thompson, grew up with their grandparents, W. H. “Harry” Richards and Mary Jane “Minnie” Gray, in Harriston, Ontario. They instilled honesty and generosity in both children.
He joined the RCAF in 1955 and enjoyed postings to many countries, especially France, where he toured around in a sports car, and water and snow skied in the Alps. Corporal Richards earned the United Nations Emergency Force Medal as a Peacekeeper in Egypt, of which he was very proud. After he retired from the military in 1979, he worked as an aircraft mechanic in Trenton.
He moved back into his grandparents’ homestead and lived there for many years. Bob moved to Moose Jaw ten years ago, living a quiet and peaceful life at the Mulberry Estates, where he had a reputation as an admirable pool player. He liked to have visitors (but just a few at a time), and he loved to read.
Bob is survived by siblings Barbara Wright, Donald Friesen, and Dianne Richards, sister-in-law Wendy Friesen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was predeceased by his mother, Mabel Pearl Matthews (nee Richards), siblings Gary Friesen, Jack “Rick” Friesen, and Joanne Friesen.
Bob will be interred in Sunset Cemetery in the Garden of Peace at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
