Kathleen (Kay) Joyce Hales
Kathleen (Kay) Joyce Hales (nee Hutchinson). Kathleen passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023 in her 97th year. Born to Leslie and Stella Hutchinson on September 26, 1926, she was the only daughter, and last surviving sibling. Her four brothers were Russ, Allan, Bill and Grant. She is also predeceased by her husband Melville and her daughter and best friend Loraine Ramage. She’s been lovingly survived by Daughters Eilene (Dennis) Sabat and Wendy Hales; Son Norman (Holly) Hales; Son in Law Ross (Francis) Ramage; Sisters in Law Joy and Shirley Hutchinson;
Grandchildren James and Michael Ramage, Christopher Sabat and Kelly Marrinan, Naomi Hales, Alysha and Jayda Hales and their spouses and six great-grandsons.
Kay and Mel farmed south of Moose Jaw in the Butress District for over 40 years before retiring to Moose Jaw. Kay was well known at the farmer’s markets and craft sales for her garden and house plants, sewing and crafts (especially the chair cozies). She loved to sew and could find a use for even the smallest scrap of fabric. She was a curler into her 70’s and a lawn and carpet bowler into her 80’s.
She loved curling with her family and travelling with them to their curling events, sitting in the stands crocheting while watching all the good shots. She travelled with her kids to Alaska, every province and 2 territories, and even Mexico! She was happy just to be included in her kid’s adventures, even if sometimes they weren’t quite her cup of tea.
In her later years, she was gifted a feline companion by her son, and he became her best friend. He came with a name, but he looked like a Ginger, so that was his name from then on. Ginger never had a problem finding her lap or laying right beside her, stretching out the length of her back, to keep her warm all night.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Arbor at Westpark Crossing and Dr. Geyer for the care and compassion shown to her.
A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, following a private family internment at Rosedale Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society Box 1658 Station Main Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Wendy and Naomi our thoughts and prayers are with you all hugs
Kay was indeed one of the nicest women one could ever meet. She was a friend to everyone. She excelled at absolutely everything she ever attempted. My Parents thought the world of her, and so did I. I Have great memories of her skipping for me when she was aiding me to learn to curl. The hours she spent making Hot Pads for casserole’s were appreciated by anyone who ever used them. She will indeed be missed by a great many folks. Her Memory will be Eternal Norm. Hugs to you and the families.
I am sending you all my love and remembering your Grammie.
Someone so special can never be forgotten. She will live on inside of you always. Hold tight to the many memories. They will get you thru the grief.
She loved you so much and you
loved her right back. Most don’t get that bond and time that you shared, such a treasure.
To Mama Wendy may you always remember the good times and may they live in your heart and comfort you. I love you both! Xxoo
PS I still have the tea towels she made me 🙂
Naomi and Wendy, I can not tell you both how deeply sorry I am for the loss of your grandma and mom. I’ve heard so much about her from you both, that I felt I knew her. Your love for her and from her was very real and I felt it every time you told me another wonderful story. Losing someone this important in your life is earth shattering and my thoughts are with you both. I can not wait to see you and give you a huge hug. Love you both so much and I’m sooooo sorry for this immeasurable loss.

Kay was an excellent Lawn Bowler – in fact, my mom, Thelma, played against her and NEVER won a game!!
