Iris Corrin
With great sadness, the family of Iris Corrin announce her sudden passing on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, at the age of 84 years.
Iris Ann Corrin (née: Kozun) was born February 16th, 1939 on a farm near Nipawin, SK, to Anthony and Anna Kozun. She was eighth of twelve siblings.
After completing high school, Iris took commercial class training and worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Nipawin. In 1962, Iris married Charles Corrin, the love of her life. They transferred to the main branch in Winnipeg, Manitoba shortly thereafter. It was there, in 1964, that their eldest son Rick was born. They then moved to Swift Current, SK where their youngest son, Doug, was born in 1966. Over the next few years, the bank transferred the family to Virden, Manitoba, then to Prince Albert and Saskatoon, SK. In Saskatoon, Iris worked at Industrial Machine. The final bank transfer took them to Moose Jaw in 1978. Soon after, Iris began working as the manager of Mappins Jewellers.
In 1983, Charles and Iris embarked on a new adventure by purchasing the Bonanza Restaurant in Moose Jaw, where they worked together for 33 years, and at Deer Ridge Golf Course.
Iris had a real talent with numbers and was a very proficient bookkeeper at Bonanza for 33 years and at Deer Ridge Golf Course for 22 years. She was also a skilled salesperson, who sold many pieces of jewelry to people in Moose Jaw.
Outside of work, Iris was a long-time volunteer with the Moose Jaw Lioness Club. She was an avid shopper, and a seasoned traveller to Spain, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Hawaiian Islands. Her favourite vacation spot was Indio, California, where she and Charles spent many winters. Her creative spark was lit by Stampin’ Up classes, where she made many cards that she lovingly gave to friends and family. She also enjoyed canning pickles, and baking Christmas cakes and pumpkin cookies to share with others.
Iris’ greatest joy was her family. She was very proud of her two boys, and in later years, her grandchildren. Iris loved to take the grandchildren on vacations and celebrated each and every one of their accomplishments. Iris and Charles were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in 2022. Iris was looking forward to attending Nathan and Chloe’s wedding in September. Iris made all of the wedding invitations.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Anna Kozun; sisters, Sophie Kozun and Zenia Zwozdesky; brothers: Ladmer, Ernie, Silvester, and Russell Kozun; brothers-in-law, Victor Pihowich and Steve Zwozdesky; and sister-in-law, Rose Kozun. Iris leaves to mourn, her beloved husband, Charles Corrin; sons Rick (Jamie) Corrin and Doug (Denise) Corrin; grandchildren: Mathew Corrin, Madison Corrin, Bradley Kohl, Cheyne Kohl (Nina Kojidi), and Nathan Corrin (Chloe Thompson); sisters: Olia Pihowich, Audrey and Nettie Kozun; brothers, John (Corliss) Kozun and Matt (Bev) Kozun; sisters-in-law: Olga, Vera, and Carol Kozun, and Mae McRorie; brother-in-law, Walter (Marilyn) Corrin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Iris was truly the heart of her family and will be missed by so many. These few words cannot sum up a life, nor the many lives, that Iris has touched. The family would like to thank Pastor Jason Schultz of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Moose Jaw Funeral Home Staff for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Iris’ Life will be held on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Schultz officiating. Those not able to attend may view the service virtually by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/. In lieu of flowers, donations in Iris’ name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, Unit 26 – 1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9 or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
