Schergel, Charlotte

After a brief illness, Charlotte Schergel quietly slipped away on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at Memory Lane in Pioneer Lodge at the age of 91 years.  Charlotte will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 72 years, Willy; daughters, Siegrid Schergel and Carin (Zoltan) Szabo; granddaughter, Sarah (Amar) Roopah; and great-grandson, Krish Roopah.  She is also survived by her brother, Rudi Filmann and three sisters: Betty Hackl, Edith Ulmer and Anni Wydra, and their families.  Charlotte Filmann was born on September 18th, 1926 at Topcza, Poland where she spent her girlhood.  During World War II the family was forced to flee their home and eventually settled in Germany where some of the family still live.  Charlotte married Willy Schergel in 1946.  Willy immigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Moose Jaw and Charlotte, with her two young girls, followed in October 1952.  She lived the rest of her life in Moose Jaw, devoting her time and energy to her family and her garden.  A Private Family Service will be held.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to Charlotte’s favourite charity, The Salvation Army, 175 – 1st Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 0Y9 would be appreciated.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
