Murphy, Marion

Murphy

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Marion Genevieve Murphy (Maloney), on October 7, 2017.  Marion was born on the family farm, ten miles north of Palmer, SK on September 16, 1926.  Marion moved to Moose Jaw in 1944, to attend business school and after graduation she went on to work as a bank clerk. In later years she worked as a bookkeeper at Eaton’s and several car dealerships in Moose Jaw.  In 1945, Marion met Lewis Murphy, and they married on his birthday, November 15, 1947.  Marion and Lew had 64 loving years together until his passing in 2011.  They loved to square dance, play cards, and watch curling together.  They especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings where often times she would lead the group in a singsong of their favorite Irish and old time songs.  Marion will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, to their six children.  She enjoyed knitting, baking and sewing as well as passing on those skills.  In her later years she was an avid reader and enthusiastic football and curling fan.  Marion is pre-deceased by her parents, Thomas and Ella (Kelly) Maloney, her husband Lewis and infant daughter Kathleen, sisters Mary, Margaret, and Rita; brothers Martin, Patrick and John.  She is survived by her brother Thomas Maloney of Fort Qu’Appelle, sister-in-law Francis Bathurst of Vancouver; children: Anne (John) Holman of Lumsden, Patrick (Joan) Murphy of Moose Jaw, Mary Ellen Sleightholme of Vancouver, Tom (Hazel) Murphy of Cranbrook, Sharon Cawsey of Des Moines Washington, and Susan (Duncan) Gordon of Tisdale and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 12th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw, Sk.  Father George Thattuparampil and Father Rick Krofchek will be presiding celebrants and internment will take place in Rosedale cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marion’s name to the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Parish Building Fund.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Michelle Surtees Funeral Director 306-693-4550
